Invoice sent to a client was paid in full and tagged accordingly. Client has made another payment by mistake. How do I tag this 2nd payment on the bank statement to the client and then refund back by bank transfer? Thank you
If you’re literally just returning the same amount they paid then the simplest approach is just to tag the money in as a transfer from a spare account like drawings/director loan and then the money out as a transfer back the other way.
If you want it to appear on the customer’s statement as a payment and a refund then you’d tag the money in as payment from a customer, pay down multiple invoices, but don’t select any invoices, so it just saves as a payment on account.
The refund half you can’t do by tagging the money out transaction from your bank feed. Instead you need to click on the “tagged” button from the original money in and you should be able to click through to the generated “payment” record. On that screen there’s an option to “refund balance”, select the correct date and bank account.
This will create a new pre-tagged money out transaction for the refund, you need to delete the untagged duplicate to get your bank balance back into line.
