Delete a tagged entry

Do I have to detag erroneous entries in a bank account before deleting them

Will deleting without detagging leave unwanted, incorrect journal entries?

Hello @aos

It depends on the tag

For example

If you delete a bank transfer (the other side of the transaction will delete from the other bank)

If you delete a tagged entry (which is paying an invoice), the invoice will not be deleted but it will be marked as unpaid

Nothing to do with invoices etc.

It’s spurious entries that have been tagged incorrectly caused by bank feeds not matching bank to bank transfers correctly , possibly compounded by out of date tagging rules.

And personal transactions that have gone to Proprietors Drawing Account. It’s these ones in particular I’m asking about as I’d like to loose the lot as per some of the advice over how to handle personal expenditure. I had been vainly trying to get Quickfile bank balance to balance with the actual account but that’s a futile activity. This has resulted in too much rubbish in the suspense account which affects P&L.

So is it ok to delete a tagged entry from the nominal ledger account, will that delete the bank entry as well? This would be considerably faster.

Or does the tagged entry need to be deleted from the bank account, thus removing the nominal entry that way?

Hello @aos

So if I had

£100 transfer from Current account (1200) to Proprietor Drawings Account (1202)

£100 CR 1200
£100 DR 1202

Deleting the tagged entry from 1200 would remove both entries.
or
Deleting the tagged entry from 1202 would remove both entries.
or
De tagging the transaction in 1200 would move £100 from Proprietor Drawings Account (1202) to suspense account
or
De tagging the transaction in 1202 would move £100 from Current account (1200) to suspense account

Hope that makes sense

Yep, keep them tagged if I want both gone, detag if its an error.
