For tidiness and minimalism I only want to see nominal accounts I have created myself and to be able to order them in order of frequency of use, or have the most recently used land at the top but there are some which don’t seem to be removable, and if they are high up on the list, this is a pain. Is there any way to remove the locked accounts?

The nominals which are locked cannot be removed but they can be hidden. So if you go to Chart of accounts > More Options > Remove unused accounts
This will remove all the accounts that have a £0 balance from view.
