Error reading totalAmount when importing purchases CSV

Morning all,
I’ve been sent a spreadsheet of expenses to key in and was hoping, really really lots, that I could bulk import purchases. However, for reasons I dont know I’m getting this nonsensical error of “Error reading totalAmount” .

Now, I’ve googled this and have tried the following;

  • Copy a section of this to a brand new sheet in case of any hidden cells, text, formatting etc - same error
  • Renamed D1 from “Total Gross Amount” to “TGA” incase QF can’t handle spaces in a row - but it’s its fine with A1’s “Receipt Date” - same error

Whats weird is that another batch imported absolutely fine! WTH?? Same format, layout etc etc. Unless QF is having a monent I just dont understand.

I’m going to start manually keying these but I have 46 rows of other expenses to key in so would reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally love it if someone could explain to me, like I’m a child, what I’m doing wrong here.

Thanks in advance,
Lu

It’s probably the “£” sign - how exactly are you when you save the spreadsheet as a CSV to import into QuickFile the amounts must be just the numbers, with no leading currency symbol. The screenshot looks like the cells are formatted in Excel’s “accounting” format; you might just need to change them to “general” or “number” (with two decimal places) instead.

Hi @Mags

Just to reiterate what @ian_roberts suggested - from looking at what you’ve uploaded, there is a £ being included in the value, whereas it should just be numeric.

Ian’s suggestion of changing the data type on the column in Excel and resaving the CSV should resolve this.

But please let us know if you need any further help.
