Error - VAT return - unauthorised

I keep getting ‘Client not authorised’ when trying to create VAT returns. I have checked all the details and have used QuickFile many times previously without a problem. Can you advise please.

I can see the Client not Authorised error on the Reports > HMRC acreen

The account you have linked to QuickFile is not authorised to access. This error usually occurs due to one of the following reasons:

  • The wrong account has been linked (e.g. a personal tax account rather than the organisation’s tax account)
  • The VAT registration number has not been correctly entered.
  • The organisation is not fully enrolled for Making Tax Digital (MTD)

I would first recommend, removing the expired entry and try re linking your HMRC account.
