Fail connecting to HMRC

I’ve been connecting to HMRC for years making vat returns. Suddenly I’m getting the failed notice and I’m not authorised. I accept I might e logged into the wrong account at HMRC, however I’ve tried linking my vat account back to quick file and that seems to be accepted, yet I still get a failed and ‘not authorised’ message.
If I am in the wrong account on HMRC, I can’t figure out how I might be able switch connected accounts to see if that is the porblem…
Any insights gratefull recieved

Thank you Hugh

Hello Haroon

I can see you are getting the Client not authorised message when trying to connect your HMRC account.

This message comes direct from HMRC and we have no control over it other than removing the connected accounts and attempting reconnection.

Common reasons for this issue include

  • The wrong account has been linked (e.g. a personal tax account rather than the organisation’s tax account)
  • The VAT registration number has not been correctly entered.
  • The organisation is not fully enrolled for Making Tax Digital (MTD)

If removing and re entering the correct account has not resolved your issue you will need to contact HMRC directly.
