Filing VAT - authentication failure error

I have tried to submit my VAT Return through Quickfile and I keep getting 'Vat return submission to HMRC failed.
By Gateway : Authentication Failure. The supplied user credentials failed validation for the requested service.'
its the first time this has happened anyone else having the same problem?

Hi @dplant3

The error is returned to us by HMRC. Please can you check that your details saved on your account are correct, and you can log into HMRC directly using the same details?

I can confirm although it looks like they have introduced another authentication layer involving a six digit code sent by text! Don’t know if you can do anything about it

@dplant3 - I’m not sure, but I don’t think this would affect it. I will however check this with a colleague and confirm shortly.

@paul_gibbons - Do you mean that you’re seeing the same error, or that you’re using the text confirmation too?

I can confirm that the SMS set up won’t affect the submission. If you’re seeing the error message “Incorrect credentials”, it means just that - something you’ve entered is incorrect and HMRC are rejecting the return based on that.

I’m actually using the authentication app. It’s also worth noting that I have not changed the setup on my account which has been successfully sending returns for years.

@paul_gibbons @dplant3 - I’ve just taken a look at this and there does appear to be an issue. We’re looking into this and liaising with HMRC to resolve it.

I am having the same problem with the same error message as first message and I have also not changed any settings etc.,

@dplant3 @paul_gibbons @3dk - We have released an update which should resolve this issue. Would you please try submitting the return again and let us know if that works OK?
