My client is on a 10% Flat rate scheme as a taxi company. QF of course picks up the sales totals and calculates the VAT owed. However if a purchase invoice is entered showing both net amount and VAT, QF deducts the VAT amount on the return. I assume the obvious answer is to input purchase invoices showing the gross as the net figure. But surely QF shouldn’t deduct the VAT if on an FRS?
Once you enable the FRS setting in QuickFile then it should not normally let you itemise the VAT on your purchases in the first place - there is an option that lets you override this for specific cases like capital purchases over the threshold or reverse charge transactions, but those should be the exception rather than the rule.
The slight wrinkle is that if you had already itemised the VAT on some of your purchases before you flipped the flat rate switch then those purchases will not be automatically updated to zero the vat and put the gross in the net column - you need to fix them up yourself.
