General Export Sales - nominal leger

I have noticed in my Profit and Loss Report that General Export Sales are not what they should be.
On closer inspection, it seems my Customer Accounts who I have set up as “Default Sales Category” = “General Export Sales” are being allocated to “General Sales”.
With these customer accounts usually they email me a Purchase Order, I raise an invoice and send it to them.
In raising that invoice I do not see the sales category.
I’ve just done a test invoice for £5 (19618 dated 24/7 if you can see it) and that is for an Italian regular customer, set up as default to export and yet it has allocated to general sales.

It seems the only invoices allocating to export sales are the ones via paypal, where I create the invoice from tagging and have the option on page to “select category”.

Any idea why this is happening?

Best Regards

Hello Richard

On invoice No 19618 you have used and inventory item on the invoice, The inventory item you have selected is set to general sales.

You can view the invoice > Click Modify > Click the cog in the description box and edit the category.

You can also edit the inventory items for future use via Sales > Inventory items

It seems the only invoices allocating to export sales are the ones via PayPal, where I create the invoice from tagging and have the option on page to “select category”.

In this example no sales inventory items are being selected and you are selecting the sales category directly.

HI Steve,
So I have a problem then, which means I probably have to stop using inventory items.
I sell things - I sell them to anyone that wants to buy them whether in Blackpool or Brasil and it seems illogical to me that an inventory item has to be categorised as General Sales, or Export Sales, and this cannot be over-ridden and takes primacy when invoicing.
Am I missing something? I can’t understand the logic of this.

Hello @RTSLTD

When creating the invoice you can change the category.

Enter the invoice as normal but after selecting the inventory item, click the cog in the description box and edit the category.

OK Cheers - that should help - it does seem a tad odd to me that a product is pre-categorised as such - mind you it’s taken me almost 10 years to twig.
