We have been using GoCardless to take payments from clients through our Quickfile account for a few years now. However rather than just taking a one of payment when clients click the link to pay, it is now coming up saying that they are setting up a direct debit, instead of a one off payment. Do you know why this is? Has something changed? Clients are being put off making the payments now as they don’t want to have to set up a direct debit

This was a change introduced by GoCardless around October last year.
In the background, nothing actually changed. When they used to make a one off payment, a direct debit was set up and cancelled again. All that happens now, is they don’t cancel the direct debit and it’s left in place for future use.
As far as I’m aware, this can’t be changed, but you may wish to raise this with GoCardless directly.
