Hmrc Error Code: 500

First time submitting VAT return via MTD/Quickfile. All information looks good and once I click ‘Submit Return’ I get the following error.

I believe this error is coming from HMRC, please let me know if it happens again

I have also received this error and am a first time user of MTD. Please advise what I need to do.

I too have just received this error but everything is set up correctly in QF and HMRC

I have been advised that there is a delay with HMRC with getting the MTD set up finalised. If you have had your confirmation email from them and are still seeing this error then you will need to contact the VAT helpline.

Ugh. They have just ended the call as the VAT Helpline don’t put you on hold. I think i will try to file again tomorrow before calling again !

There is also a notification on their page today that they are having issues so may be best to wait anyway - at least we still have plenty of time !

I registered for MTD about a month ago but only linked it to QuickFile yesterday, I read somewhere about waiting 72 hours. I will also try again tomorrow and see if I get any luck. Thanks Simon :pray:

Have you registered for MTD with HMRC? If so, when did you do this and have you received a confirmation email?

We have been informed by HMRC that there is a delay in sending the confirmation emails, and until these are received then you may see the error 500. During this time, they have advised not to contact the VAT helpline, nor try and submit a return, but wait a few days.

If you have received the confirmation email, waited 72 hours, and you are still seeing error 500, then I would advise to contact the VAT helpline.

I received the Sign up complete email. Maybe these are being sent out before set up is complete.

I’ve contacted the VAT helpline and they’ve arranged a callback on the 5th August. Guess they’re busy with all these issues.

I’ve just tried and still getting the same error, I’ll try again on Monday (fingers crossed!)

I tried again and it worked.
Successful submission was around 24 hours after receiving the Sign up complete email.
