How do I record Stripe transaction fees via Zapier?

I’m trying to setup the Zap to transfer Stripe transactions. I can record the transaction amount into the Stripe Merchant Account, but I also want to create a record of the transaction fees.

Is this possible and if so, how do I set it up?

Regards

Steve

Hi @steve.manning

I have some potential good news for you. We’re actually in testing stages for a Stripe feed which would work in a similar way to the PayPal feed in your account. This means you don’t actually need to set up zaps to do this for you. Let me know if you would like set up on your account?

But to answer your question, when you’re setting up the zap, ensure you’ve selected the Stripe trigger of “Charge Created”, and select the QuickFile action as “Create new bank transaction”. On the amount field, if you click the little field selector:

You’ll come across two fields, like this:

The Transaction Fee is the Stripe Fee.

What may trip you up is trying to do this in 1 zap. I believe you can if you have a paid Zapier account, but if you only have the free version, you may need to set up 2 zaps.

Hope that helps!

I wouldn’t bother recording the fees individually for each transaction. Stripe provide you with an invoice at the end of each month covering the total fees that have been deducted that month so you can just create a purchase in QuickFile from that and pay it from the merchant account to cover all the fees for the month in one go.

Hi Ian

We’ve never received an invoice from Stripe - although we can go to the account and download one. For PayPal we get the transaction amount and the fees automagically, so I was looking for something similar from Stripe via Zapier - it’s just one less thing to have to do manually.

The fees are available as a field in the feed but there doesn’t seem to be a way to pass that to QF as a supplier invoice.

Yeah, they don’t push the invoices to you, you have to download them from the portal. And if you’re vat registered (I am) then you have to reverse charge them, which isn’t something QuickFile can do automatically.

It is a manual process but at least it’s only a once a month thing.
