How to process a C79 certificate (credit)?

After six months of frustrating communications with FedEx/TNT I have at last obtained a C79 certificate with paid VAT on a misquoted import. A machine which should have imported as a repair was stated as a purchase so I ended up with a £580 VAT bill.
Now I have the C79, can you help with advice as to how to implement this as a credit on my next VAT return?

Hi Have searched for this but can not find. I have an invoice for £30 of VAT on an import from the USA and a £12 handling fee total £42. There is no VAT charged on the handling fee, but obviously I want to claim the Import VAT back on the VAT return how do build this purchase? Or do I have to do a manual modification to the VAT return. Thanks! Paul
