Im trying to import a bank statement that a client has gave, saved in CSV format

Which bank issued the statement? What error message are you seeing? If the CSV has been modified in Excel then when it was saved it may have adopted a different encoding which has been known to cause problems in the past. You can try opening in Notepad and saving as ASCII then try to import again.
