Input VAT following period end

Just wondering if you have to finish a vat qtr before you can carry on posting vat invoices.

No, you can keep going straight through - it’s only when you actually complete the return that it locks down the relevant invoices and purchases.

There’s no way I could ever complete my return for one quarter before I can start raising invoices for the next quarter, as I have several suppliers that send me invoices dated on the last day of the month but I don’t receive them until a week or two later.

I thought you would be able to but have worked with some systems where you can’t carry on till the VAT rtn has been completed.
