Background tasks like this often happen a bit slower than usual on the 1st of the month, because there’s a massive peak in things like recurring invoices on the 1st compared to any other day of the month. It should have submitted fine but if you check back later/tomorrow and it has still not gone through then reach out to QFSupport.
You have until 7th May to submit your Jan-March return so there’s plenty of time to sort things out.
Going back to my Return, it told me it had been “SAVED”. Still not being able to submit it to HMRC, in my ignorance I “rolled it back” and now it seems I can’t do anything with it at all, as well as not letting me start afresh. How do I retrieve it and then submit it to HMRC?
Do you have your HMRC account connected to QuickFile? If you go to Reports → HMRC, what does it say about your VAT obligations - these are pulled live from HMRC so if this page says that the Jan-March quarter has been “filed” then it has been submitted. To get things straight in QuickFile what you need to do then is
disable online filing (by de-selecting your HMRC account in the drop down on your QuickFile VAT settings page)
prepare a new return for Jan-March and “save” that
the return will now show as “saved” rather than “submitted” in the list because it wasn’t this specific return that QuickFile submitted to HMRC, but as long as reports → HMRC says that you have filed a return for the quarter then you’re ok
re-select your HMRC account in the settings ready for next time
If the HMRC reports page thinks the period is still “open” then that means it has not been submitted yet, and you should be able to create a new return from here and submit it in the normal way.
