Looking to switch - Queries about bank feeds and the app

I am looking to switch to using your software, mostly as i am having loads of issues with my bank feeds.

Can you confirm you are still using Yodlee feeds if the existing bank is not yet using open banking? Dont want to pay for them if they are not going to work.

I have had a look around both the web version and your mobile app and can see a way to manually process a stripe payment on the web version, but not on the app. I need this ability so i can take payments while on customers premises. Also, i notice it asks for the clients address on the payment page, stripe does not actually require this information to process a payment, so can it be left blank or disabled somewhere?

I assume the 1gb storage limit is for the document hub? This sounds very small and could get very expensive, very quickly if its £9.99 per GB. Or am i understanding this wrong? If not, is there a way the documents can be stored in an other cloud storage location, google docs for example?

Cheers

Ian

Hi @Ian_Wilmshurst

As it stands, Yodlee is available for banks that aren’t supporting Open Banking, but are listed in the bank list (in your bank account settings). I can certainly check this for you though if you’d like to let me know the name of your bank?

We don’t currently support taking payments in the QuickFile app. This may be something we add in the future, but I can’t give any guarantees or timescales on this. I am aware there are other Stripe apps available which will do this for you. Alternatively, the app will allow you to send an invoice which can be accessed by the client and paid at their end.

That’s correct about the storage. Depending on your volume of documents, depends on how quick it will fill up. We don’t currently support external storage of the documents, but you’re welcome to start a feature request for this if you wish. Just post in the #feature category.

I hope this helps!

I use Starling business (can see you already support this) and personal. Santander Business and a New Day credit card (amazon) which does work with yodlee, or at least it used too.

The stripe apps you refer too, dont actually work to pay the invoice in QF though? I would need the payment to automatically assign against the invoice.

From your experience, what sort of quantity of documents fits in 1 gb (am aware files sizes vary).

Although “Amazon” or “New Day” isn’t listed specifically, it would be possible, you would just need to select a bank that’s listed but doesn’t have a direct feed.

You can set up a feed (so the transaction appears in QuickFile), and it would then just be a case of tagging the payment to the invoice, as you would with a normal bank feed.

I’ve just checked an account I have access to, which has 1,256 files and uses 182.06MB of space. If my maths is right, 1GB would hold around 7,000 files based on that. But as you said, file size does vary so it could be less (or even more).

Would i be able test that the feed works, and if they dont would i be able to get a refund on the bank feeds?

What sort of feed are you referring too?

I think you missed this from my first set of questions.?

It’s a QuickFile Stripe feed. We would check the account each night and pull in any transactions from the last 24 hours.

Apologies for missing this. You can leave the client name and email address blank - that’s required. However, because of the QuickFile client area, you would need to add both a name and email address, or neither.

Typically if a feed doesn’t work, our first step is to try and resolve it for you. But naturally, if this isn’t possible, then we can look at a refund for you.

OK, i think i just need to give it a try.

Are there any stripe android apps you can recommend?

That doesn’t quite make sense, are you saying i can leave the address section blank?

Clients are split into two “parts”:

  • Client details (name, address, account reference, default nominal code etc.)
  • Client contacts (first name, last name, email address, telephone number)

You can create the client overall without any contacts. But if you create a contact, first name, last name and email address are required.

There aren’t any that come to mind, sorry. But if you’re taking payments at the customer’s premises, it may be worth looking at a card reader (something like iZettle, SumUp, or similar).

Im talking about their address, not email address…?

I wouldn’t use any of those as they add a charge on top of the stripe fees. My current accounts app allows me to take a payment manually from within the app.

I have paid for the bank feeds and already stumbled into a problem. How do i add my starling personal account?? Its only gives me the option to add the business?

When you activate the bank feed in QuickFile, it will show you a QR code. You would need to scan the QR code with the Starling app as per the on-screen instructions.

In the Starling app, make sure you select the correct account before going to the marketplace as it I’ll, by default, link the active account.

If you’re taking face to face payments then you should get something like SumUp or Square and take the payments by chip&pin - you’re not really supposed to use card-not-present payments like Stripe when you do actually have the physical card available.

It depends how big your files are - if you’re doing very high resolution photos of every receipt that are tens of MB per picture then yes, but in most cases you can shrink the files way down without losing readability. I have almost 5 years of records in QuickFile with attached receipts (~5,700 items), a mixture of 150dpi scanned images and PDF/HTML invoices I received by email, and I’m only on 1.8GB so far.

Ive done that already with my business account, but i cant add my personal account? It says the feeds are already set up showing only my business account as a selection option.

I’ve just given this a go, and successfully linked another account without any issues.

Are you able to upload any screenshots or a short video clip highlighting the issue please? It may be that I’m just looking in the wrong place, so I just want to be clear we’re on the same wavelength. You’re welcome to send these privately to @QFSupport if that’s easier
