Making Tax Digital features

Hi,

I’m new here. I’m evaluating a few products in order to make my self-assessment using the new Making Tax Digital system.

I am unsure if I could do the bookkeeping and the quarter and final MTD submissions with QuickFile. I am not able to find some things.

I think that I’m able to:

  • Create invoices (in €, and then write the received £)
  • Create expenses

I also need:

  • Capital Gain Tax
  • Marriage allowance
  • Child Benefit
  • Private pension contributions
  • Tax on savings

Where could I input that values, so QuickFile files into HMRC? (and shows me the tax, etc.?).

Is QuickFile meant to be used this way? Or should I use ofr the HMRC MTD something else?

Thank you very much! I like the UI and the product that I’ve been able to see so far!

Hello @Carles

Are your registered for the 2025-2026 HMRC pilot scheme?

If so you would first need to connect your HMRC tax account in he Reports > HMRC screen

No, I haven’t. I didn’t want to do anything related to HMRC before starting the new financial year.

I didn’t know that doing it was required to see the Making Tax Digital features in QuickFile (I thought that being registered or not would affect submission, but not gathering the data in QuickFile).

I am trying to assess that QuickFile has the features that I need, so I wanted to see the module. Is it possible to see the making tax digital features without doing the HMRC pilot scheme?

Also, from the list of “features” that I’m interested in (my “I also need”): do you know if QuickFile supports them?

If I joined the HMRC pilot scheme in this tax year: does it affect in any way my 2025-2026 self assessment? (I want to do the 2025-2026 in the “old” fashion and use making tax digital only for 2026-2027).

Thank you very much for all your help!

Carles
