The Materials Purchase Category is missing, we only have general purchases available to choose which will not be sufficient, please can someone advise?
“Materials Purchase” isn’t in the default set of nominal codes. You can certainly add it if you want from the Chart of Accounts page, any custom codes can be added in this way then utilised in your purchases.

The category "Materials’ is or should be as we use quick file for another company and its available on there??
It may have been added manually to that account but it doesn’t look like a system code. When you look at the code on the chart of accounts is the padlock highlighted blue?
