I’ve been a Quickfile user for a number of years and have an existing VAT integration with the HMRC. I’m getting ready for MTD and have followed all the steps in getting connected, I’ve made the request to HMRC (which is confirmed), and I’ve added a connection on Quickfile - but I get “Good” for my VAT, and despite following all the steps for my personal tax it always says “failed” with “Client not authorised error” !
I have my VAT which is linked which works fine (and has done for years!) but when I try to link my “requested” Individual Tax account for MTD - I always get the “Client not authorised message”. I’ve followed all the steps (deleting / re-creating & checking that HMRC link is active for Quickfile (which is confirmed). - and it is, and it says that it is “ready to work with my Individual tax return credentials as well as VAT”).
Please help? how can I resolve the “Failed” - “Client Not Authorised” issues - what can I do next? (Thanks)
Thank you, “yes” registered with the HMRC, when I check the HMRC website confirms access granted for Quickfile to VAT and all the components required for filing an individual return …
I can see on the account linked to your email you are seeing the “Client not Authorised” message in the Reports > HMRC screen
This message is returned from HMRC when we try and log in to your tax account behind the scenes using the details you provided.
I would first reccomend trying removing and trying to reconnect your account in Reports > HMRC > Connect ensuring all details are correct
We have seen instances where local software has blocked the connection, I would reccomend trying the below.
Try incognito mode (ctrl+shift+n.
Try an alternate browser).
Try an alternate pc.
Try loading it in you mobiles browser (try WIFI and mobile data).
If this all fails you would need to contact HMRC as the message is returned by them when we try and log in to your tax account behind the scenes using the details you provided.
Thank you, I have however just spent the past 1h trying every permutation, methodically following every possibility as you suggest (differing browsers, differing PC, differing device, even WiFi / Mobile, and using in Cognito mode (and not) - SAME Issue ! (I work/have a background in IT)
When I check the HMRC status it confirms that Quickfile tax link has been granted access (as per the screen shot above). I’ve even Deleted the permission to Quickfile on the HMRC website, and then re-connected - still no luck, same message.
One observation I do have is. I’m a “sole trader” (therefore my name and my business are one of the same, and so is my VAT number - they are both accessed under the same Government Gateway ID). The Pink Quickfile error (with my “First Name, Surname”) referrers to “The wrong account has been linked (e.g. a personal tax account rather than the organisation’s tax account)” but in my case they are the same - are you sure that your system is working out that being a sole trader (as I am) this information is the same. ie. My Personal Account (my Government Gateway ID (which on the HMRC dashboard Manages manages both my VAT and my Personal Tax) is “one of the same”.
Morning, after going through all the steps, and some repeated “Deletion of the connection” and then re-connecting. Then after leaving it/returning - approx. 40mins later it’s seemed to have worked ! (I’m wondering is some sort of update/service unavailability stopped my account connecting?) - Thank you. Now to understand more about MTD !
