Open Banking For The Co-Operative Bank

My current bank (Santander) have decided to withdraw my free business banking account and will be charging me a monthly fee going forward.

I’m keen to move and was looking at The Co-Operative as I can get free, ethical banking from them but they do not appear in the list of banks in the open banking feed, which is a deal breaker for me.

Their website says that they do support the open banking standard and that feeds are available.

I know this was not always the case but now that they do is there anyway to get this feed working in QuickFile?

Hello @AWS

I believe the open banking feed they offer is none standard and can not be integrated at this time

We’ve reached out to them for details on this. However, we’re yet to receive a response.

If anything changes, we will post it on this forum.

Please feel free to read the feature request below and add your vote.

You can however import COOP bank statements to get the transactions into QuickFile.

Thanks for responding.

I have added my vote to the feature request.

I used to have to do the statement import from Santander and there is no way I want to go back to doing that.

Info on the Co-Op website seems to suggest all that is needed is for a registration -

My chosen third party provider (TPP) can’t access my account. What can I do?

Your chosen third party provider (TPP) may not be registered with us. Please ask them whether they have registered with us since we updated our open banking solution.

They also have a specific developer portal for registering as a TPP

I assume that you are aware of those.

I’d be happy to chase them up for you if you let me know who you’ve reached out to.

Hello @QFSteve,

Unfortunately this isn’t true. Whilst you might call the Co-op bank feed non-standard it’s a well defined and open API from token.io, documented very clearly here: Data (Account Information Services) , so you shouldn’t need to reach out to them, and if you do I found them very responsive when I tried to understand myself what technical blockers there might be. Here’s a snip of what they wrote to me:

Token.io do have a support portal which is really helpful , I’m sure Quickfile would be aware of this already.

…unfortunately it is down to Quickfile to resolve any issues with Token.io and onboard with them, if it’s any help I look after the Open Banking integration for both Retail and SME customers and have never come across a TPP who refuses to onboard with Token.io before, and we deal with some of the main players on the market….

So it does seem like it’s really only a commercial decision by Quickfile, there probably just aren’t enough users with bank accounts which need token.io to make it worth their while implementing it. Unfortunately it’s not possible for just anyone to make an add-on and use it because one would need to be registered with the FCA as a TPP, which seems unlikely for Quickfile users.

Are you sure you definitely contacted them? The fact I’m a nobody and got a response makes me surprised that you didn’t.

As well as the thread you already linked to there’s also more technical discussion here: Open Banking - Token Connections - #13 by madbilly

I hope this renewed interest in the Co-op bank feed might get some gears in motion. I’ll be happy to test it when it’s available.

Cheers
