Tagging partial payments agin invoices works fine in GBP when a purchase is in a foregin ammount it is npt possible to TAG the payment to the supplier or to a USD partially paid invoice.
something like this would be good…
We have about 30, $ purchase in USD where they have taken partial payment then full payment and it is is very hard to manage in QF
You are also not able to open the puchase and tab multiple payments if in foreging currrancy it only allows you to add single entry. I am trying to transfer to a holding account but this is super complicaed if the holding account is setup as that foreign accounting. it makes lots of additional work
This may be one of those cases where you have to start from the purchase invoice - if you “log payment” from there you should be able to set all the right amounts in both currencies, QuickFile will create a pre-tagged bank transaction and then you delete the untagged duplicate that came from your feed.
I had already done that it doesnt work as if the supplier is in USD you can only add one payment to it.
The only way round it adds signifcant admin overheads
For those that need to a solution
Open a Bank account in QF set it as Foreign currency
Tag your transactions from your current account to your new Supplier holding account, you will need to know the Original Foreign currency amount and the GDP equivelant. Once all partial payments are in the holding account you can tag the full payment of the purchase from here. Heach time you tag you will a have to know the Dollar and UK equivelant. It’s a real pain
Are you sure? If you log payment directly on the purchase you should be able to choose any USD amount and then enter the GBP conversion alongside, and it’ll calculate the effective exchange rate. As long as the USD amount you’ve logged for the payment is less than the USD total of the purchase then it should be possible to log further payments in the same way. But you do have to log both the part payments starting from the purchase, I suspect you can’t do one via “log payment” and then the other via bank tagging.
yes but you can only log a single transaction, not a split payment (i have tried)
I’ve just tried creating a dummy €100 purchase in my account and I’m able to log two separate €50 payments against it, assigned to a GBP bank account:
I set the payment date first, then the foreign currency amount, and QuickFile calculates a suitable GBP amount based on the exchange rate on that day, but I can then freely modify the GBP amount without the EUR amount changing (it recalculates the “Ex. Rate” to match).
