You continue to mention the below about no reports to query the information but I think it is quite clear that even manually people are looking at their payments to see the method used. So although not a report as such, there is still need and use for people to know how payments were made or received to an account.

The box you mention is being removed as it is just an extra step in the process and serves no purpose.

I agree it has no accounting significance and there are no reports that query on the payment type, but it’s still one of the advanced search options in the payment list filter and the Payment_Search API, and by the look of comments on this thread quite a few people use it this way.
