To set up a paypal account, is it a current account or a merchant account or something else? Does PayPal have account numbers and sort codes?

A merchant account with PayPal is just a business account, and comes with merchant tools (like invoicing, shipping cart etc). There is no difference on QuickFile except the merchant option would allow you to set up a PayPal feed
PayPal (Merchant) would be the best choice.
As far as I’m aware, no they don’t. They would have an account number some sort, but not in the respect of a sort code and account number like a bank.
