Hi
How can I access a free trial of the power user version please?
I have only just signed up and I want to check the program does what I need.
Everything I enter will be manual but I need access to the VAT settings and nominal ledger code vat settings.
Ive tried entering a manual entry via the bank account screen but I have no option to enter a nominal code or vat. I have also tried creating a new nominal code but do not have the option to enter a VAT rate for that nominal code.
Unless I’m reading this totally wrong I can only access these things with a Power User subscription and I don’t want to pay for that without checking that Quickfile is suitable for our organisation.
Hello @LIC
Just to clarify the nominal code and vat is entered on the invoice/credit not the payment/receipt.
The attached link explains further how “Tagging” works.

thanks for coming back to me.
So I have to go through every manual entry and tag it after rather than just add a nominal code as I enter it? That will take me ages and mean going into every transaction a second time. ie enter it then tag it with all the details. Heck. Is there not an easier way?
I’m afraid I’m used to good old MS Money which seems a lot more straight forward in this respect.
Hello @LIC
The article mentions you can use the Bulk Tagging option
Bulk tagging works in much the same way as single tagging, but allows you to select up to 50 items at a time on your bank and apply the same explanation.
Here’s how it works…
First, you need to find a set of transactions that relate to the same client, supplier or transfer. Within the QuickFile bank statement screen, you will see a magnifying glass for each bank statement entry. This will allow you to search for similar transactions and to then drill down into those matching entries. You can also perform an advanced search by clicking the Search button above the statement preview.
You can now select all the items using the corresponding checkboxes and then click the ‘Tag Selected’ button. You will see a series of options similar to those available on the individual tagging pop-up.
As you Tag the items you can set up Auto tagging rules.
Auto tagging rules
Do you have many repeat payments to suppliers, bank transfers or client receipts? If so you may want to set up some auto-tagging rules on your account to fully automate the bank tagging process.
Auto-tagging works by allowing you to match transactions that either start with, contain or end with a particular name/reference. You can then tell QuickFile how such matching items should be tagged.
Thank you.
I will take a look at that. I hope also that I will be able to sort the vat that way too. I have two different levels for vat on gas for example.
The other thing I’m struggling with is invoices from suppliers where they cover different types of things all under one invoice and I have to split them down. For example stock, cleaning supplies, bar snacks etc. within MS money I just select split and break it down all within one entry. I hope I can do that here too.
thanks again
You would split your purchases by creating a purhcase invoice. what I do is create a purchase invoice when I receive it so it’s there and ‘outstanding’. This gives me an overview of what I actually owe too. The purchase can have multiple lines with different categories like gas, electric, postage, phone, and so on. Then just tag the bank entry to the invoice to show it as paid.
