To preview vat without connecting to HMRC

  • Go into Reports > Vat Returns > Settings

  • Change the HMRC account option to “No electronic filing” and save

The next time you run the return you will be prompted to enter the date range of the return you wish to preview

Is it a problem to connect? I have been doing so even when not filing my VAT. When I want to see how much I owe so far in a quarter, for example.

No not at all, If you can it is better to connect your HMRC account as the various vat periods are displayed for you once connected.
