Printing letters with Firefox - Extra blank page

Not a major problem but easy to waste paper and time.
When printing from My Letters an extra blank page is printed, the on screen PDF shows correctly page one of one.

If you go via the menus the Firefox print preview then shows as two pages with the second blank.
I have tried the same letter with chrome it prints as just the one page.

I have tried also a locally generated PDF in Firefox and there is no problem.

Firefox 42.0
PDF plugin = Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape 15.9.20069

Thank you for any ideas.
Simon

Does this depend on how long the letter is, or does it always produce an extra page?

Maybe this is a problem with the PDF plugin you’re using with Firefox? If the PDF opens with one page, the printer should really only produce one page.

I don’t have any multi-page letters as yet, I’ll create a test 2 or 3 page letter and see what happens!

Simon.

Have just created a 1000 word "Lorem ipsum " test letter. This comes up as a two page PDF, when FF print preview is used becomes three pages p3 blank.

  1. Printed via CutePDF writer - Got a two page pdf when opened in Adobe reader but still three pages when opened and print previewed in FF.
  2. Downloaded from QF - Got a TWO page PDF when opened in both Adobe and FF.

Looks like some rendering issue in the plug in, will have a look for a different plug in and try that.

Have found a work around,

Firefox was using the built in PDF viewer not the plugin. (Menu - Options - Applications)

  1. Switched to the plugin but just got the cog wheel and GENERATING LETTER.
  2. Switched this to launch adobe reader, but this does still leave a FF tab which is blank apart from the cog wheel and GENERATING LETTER.

Simon.

There are a few posts on here about Firefox PDFs downloading rather than previewing. The GENERATING LETTER page doesn’t disappear in instances where it’s actually downloaded to your file system rather then display in a tab.

Mozilla have some documentation on this here:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/view-pdf-files-firefox-without-downloading-them

I don’t believe this is a QuickFile bug so will reclassify to “support” for now.

Have now got the adobe plug in working - re-started Firefox and it worked.
Looks like a problem with the built-in FF pdf reader.
The plug in is a little slower, but for now everything working!
