Problem setting up SMTP

I am trying to set up email using my SMTP mail settings in the hope that it will improve the reliability of outgoing mail. I have invoices that don’t turn up quite often and people don’t always check the spam folder even if you tell them its worth doing.

I believe I’ve filled the form in correctly but have received the following error:

The SMTP server requires a secure connection or the client was not authenticated. The server response was: 5.7.57 SMTP; Client was not authenticated to send anonymous mail during MAIL FROM

I can’t copy and paste all of my details.

I hope someone can help as the invoicing reliability is becoming a problem.

Hi @Sharonmw1

All mail by default is routed via Amazon using our default no reply email address. They shouldn’t be ending up in spam folders, although this isn’t to say it won’t happen.

Who is your email provider (outlook, Google, AOL, etc.)? Perhaps we can offer some advice on settings that should be used here.

Hi

My email is through outlook. I got the following information.

NOTE: If you set up your email using IMAP or POP settings, your calendar will not sync.

Server name

Port

Requires SSL (TLS)

Incoming Mail (IMAP) Server:

outlook.office365.com

993

Yes

Incoming Mail (POP) Server:

outlook.office365.com

995

Yes

Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server:

smtp.office365.com

587

Yes

I’ve just pasted it so it has lost its formatting but it comes from here:

I just know that invoices only arrive sometimes but not just from my account. Also from accounts I do Bookkeeping for. If they are subscribers you can get a log of successful and failed mail.

These are the credentials you need for SMTP with Office 365:

Host Name: smtp.office365.com
Port: 587
Use SSL: true

You also need to ensure that the sender email you have saved in Account Settings >> Routine Emails is the one you have configured with Office 365.

Assuming the password is correct it should then work. If it doesn’t you may also need to check to ensure we are white listed in Office 365. It could be that they are blocking our IP.

Thank you, I will try all of that and let you know how I get on.

I have clients using Gmail too but that seems to have been easier to set up.
