Quarterly VAT return pulling in figures from previous quarters

I’m trying to do a quarterly VAT return for the last quarter of 2019 but keep getting figures pulled from the start of 2014 to the end of the quarter in question included in the return. Why might that be happening?

Are you newly VAT registered, been registered previously but not submitting returns through QuickFile, or you have been submitting previous returns through QuickFile but it’s started doing this unexpectedly?

If you’re newly registered then you need to set your “VAT start date” in your QuickFile settings to your effective date of registration. QuickFile normally pulls in all items dated before the end of the quarter you’re filing that have not already been accounted for in a previous return, to make sure anything you entered retrospectively after submitting the relevant return gets accounted for as soon as possible, but it won’t look before the “VAT start date” if you’ve set one.

It’s started doing it unexpectedly. i’ve been submitting using QF for a few years

Hi @ProdExch

As @ian_roberts mentions, QuickFile will pull in any data from your VAT start date (in your settings) to the end of the VAT period.

This will also include any historic data that’s been entered late.

Are you on cash or accrual accounting for VAT?

That’s what I thought but there seems to be so much information that’s already included in previous returns.

I use cash accounting …

Have you recently marked any older invoices as paid?

Not to my knowledge.

I’ll send you a private message so we can take a look for you.
