Quickfile Link to HMRC MTD Pilot Scheme

Hi, I have registered with HMRC for the VAT MTD Pilot Scheme. I have now assembled our VAT submission data for the Quarter 2018/Q4 on the Quickfile submission form (looks identical to the manual HMRC form). Also, I have followed the instructions to allow HMRC and Quickfile to link with each other. At the moment, the submission form is tagged as ‘Saved’: what happens next? Do I have to take some further action? Also, it turns out that we are due a VAT refund for 2018/Q4 (refund or payment varies from quarter to quarter), will this still work?

Hi @peterpetsmate.co.uk

If your VAT return is showing as “Saved”, it suggests it’s not been submitted through MTD, but rather just saved on your account.

In the first instance, you would need to roll that return back. Then, go to Reports >> HMRC, and view your VAT periods there, which will allow you to file against once of the periods HMRC are expecting. A MTD VAT return will have a blue “MTD” label in the left corner.

If your return is showing that you are a due a refund, then once it’s submitted (not just “Saved”), HMRC will process it as normal.

Thanks for your reply - as I pressed the button to submit my question, your system displayed another virtually identical question (ironically from another Peter) that you had already answered. Your answer was the same as you have sent to me (apart from the VAT refund part), so I have been able to make everything work like magic, so thanks! I have checked on our HMRC login and the data are there and the return marked as ‘received’.
