Reclaim VAT for previously submitted VAT returns

Hi there, so I’m a journalist sole trader who charges VAT via quick file. I write for a publication which has a UK and US arm - they have been paying me VAT for both. They are now saying they made an error and should not have paid any VAT to me for the work I did for US arm. That VAT is worth around £4,000 - and they have deducted that from the amount they gave me this month. They say I need to sort a refund with VAT - how do I go about this? It means July and August of my VAT returns are wrong.

Hello @chriswhite

You could do this with a credit note but as the support team are not registered accountants I would reccomend speaking to your accountant for professional tailored advice.

I will leave this thread open for now as there are some accountants on the forum who may wish to comment.
