First let me say that this happened because of my own stupidity but I do think this is a bug.
I imported a number of Euro denompurchase invoices but forgot to enter an exchange rate and therefore the invoices were recorded with a €:£ exchange of 1.0000.
When I paid the invoices dated the samne day that the invoice was dates the payment exchange rate of course recorded the exchange coprrectly. For example €1.1411.
I picked up on this because very large currency gain/loss in the Currency Charges account.
I corrected the exchange rate on all the invoices. Meaning that the invoice showed the correct GBP value in the nominal ledger.
However, correcting the exchange rate on the invoice did not correct/change the currency gain/loss shown in the Currency Charges account.
I had to:
- detach the payment from the invoice.
- de-tag the payment in the bank account
- re-tag the paymenty in the bank account
Payment this is intentional or a limitatiomn of the design but I think changing an exchange rate on an invoice or a paymnent (changing payment date) should trigger:
- either a change in the currency exchange rate gain or loss
- or a warning whne it is changed that the gain/loss has not been changed.
