Refund against lower value cash purchase

I bought some goods & paid for them by debit card, but it was the wrong item & the one I needed was cheaper. The shop credited the higher value against the replacement purchase, resulting in a repayment of 70p into my bank account. I have 3 till receipts; the original purchase, the credit for the same amount, and the replacement purchase (lower value). How do I enter this please? (If they had refunded the whole lot into the bank account it wouldn’t be a problem!)

Simplest way is to cheat and delete the first 2 transactions and then just tag the correct value receipt accordingly.

You have 3 receipts but I presume you have 2 bank transactions, one for the initial purchase the second for the refund?

Normally what I would do is just locate the 70p refund on the bank, click to tag the item, select refund from a supplier and then nominate it to that original purchase.

Thanks for the reply, Lurch
Problem is, I can’t get my head round how to do this when I had a 70p refund into the bank. I’ll try Glenn’s suggestion & see how it goes. I’m very new to QF and have a lot to learn but am enjoying using it so far.

Thanks for your help, Glenn. I think it’s OK now. I deleted the credit note and 2nd transaction from the Quickfile records, so I only had the original transaction (showing as paid) in Purchases. I then tagged the refund from the Bank screen and allocated it to the original transaction. So I have a couple of receipts in my file that aren’t actually entered on Quickfile. Hope this makes sense!
