Registering Quickfile with HMRC for ITSA

I have been using Quickfile for my business in 2025/26 and I am aware that from 6 April 2026 I will have to link it somehow to the HMRC system so that quarterly updates can be sent to HMRC.

How do I do this?

Also, when do I do this? Before 6 April 2026 or after?

Hello @MartinJ

Once you have registered with HMRC you can connect your tax account in the Reports > HMRC screen.

Please see the link below for MTD ITSA detailed guidance

Hello Steve,

I have a self-employed business with turnover in excess of £50,000 and will need to register for MTD.

I also own 10% of a rental property which my spouse manages. He is not required to use MTD. I understand I need to account for the income (10%) quarterly but need only account for the expenses in the final submission after the year ends.

You recommend that in this situation the two accounts should be kept separate.

How does one start a separate account with Quickfile? Do you need to register again with a different email?

And will HMRC allow two separate accounts to be registered?

Thanks.

Hello @Upozi1

If your spouse does not need to do submissions then they would not need and account.

You can add the rental income onto your account (kept separate by using a different nominal account as the income stream e.g. 4000 general income, 4001 rental income) then make an adjustment to reduce it by 90% on the return.
