Rental Income and VAT

Quickfile already has a Rent Income nominal code but it records the income on the vat return
How can I get the Vat return to ignore the rental income ?

Hello @DinahJones

The vat return looks at invoices (and payments if on vat cash) and the vat rates that are specified.

The nominal code has no bearing on this.

We have put 20% on the sale, cashed it off and I have ensured it is within the dates of the vat return.
The return is pulling through zero VAT

Also with rental income I just wanted the income to not be on the vat return. In Sage they use to call it a T9 transaction.

Are you on cash accounting?, if so, Is the payment date (the tax point) within the return period?

So there is no vatable invoice for it?

Rental income is taxable, it’s just generally exempt - the old T2 code on Sage, not T9 - unless you have opted to tax. It should therefore be included on your VAT return in Box 6.
