Rolled back vat problem

Hi

What does rolled back VAT mean? by mistake i clicked it and now it says its rolled back, First time i have ever done by vat last week, managed to get it all done perfectly, submitted it and paid it but today for some stupid reason i clicked rolled back, what does this mean?

When i go to my vat page i get “This vat Return has been rolled back.”

If I got to hmrc/connect page it says my company name and connected on the 11-5-26 and status is good with the VAT link ticked.

What have i done and do i need to do something about it?

Thanks

Hello @clicksystems

When vat returns are submitted or saved all the transactions are reconciled and a journal is processed (sales and purchase tax to vat liability).

Rolling back if purely in QuickFile, you can not un submit a return but you can reverse the local process - all the transactions are un reconciled and a journal is removed (sales and purchase tax to vat liability)

If you then try and run the next return, as the transactions are unreconciled they would be picked up as well as the next periods.

If return is showing as “Filed” in your Reports > Vat Returns > Create screen and there is a HMRC ID on the rolled back return then HMRC have received the figures and the submission was a success.

You can not re submit a filed return but you have to save a copy as to not impact the next return.

To do this

  • Go into Report > Vat Returns > Settings
  • Set the HMRC account to “No electronic filing” > Save
  • Go into Report > Vat Returns > Create >
  • Enter the period > If the figures are correct (as per what was submitted) > Submit (this will save a copy of the return as a placeholder)
  • Go back into Report > Vat Returns > Settings
  • Set the HMRC account back to your company > Save

As the return can not be resubmitted its status will show as saved which is normal. All the transactions are re reconciled and the journal is processed (sales and purchase tax to vat liability).

Hope that helps
