Santander no manual bank feed?

Hello,
For some reason I cannot manually do a bank feed. QuickFile does them daily on auto feed but just says no transactions when I do a manual feed?
I have tried redoing the feed but still the same
Thanks

What do you mean by manual feed, are you referring to refreshing the bank feed?

Yes, refreshing the bank feed just comes back with no transactions
Thanks

Hi @Dsalkeld,

Are you missing transactions? You said in your post that the automatic feed is working correctly?

Automatic feed is working on a daily basis.
During the day I check my bank account on my bank internet banking site and new transactions are there. I do a bank feed through Quick File and comes back “no transactions found”. However, next morning it automatically feeds the previous days transactions
Thanks

Hi @Dsalkeld,

Santander have added a few extra checks and even though the transaction is showing as complete on your online statement it hasn’t been settled completely and there is still an element of pending - the bank feed will not pull these transactions through until they have been completely settled which is why they only appear the next day.

I hope this makes sense?

So, it’s a security feature from Santander?
Never been like this before. Just slows my accounting down. Transactions show as cleared in my bank account but won’t feed through instantly. Never had a problem before. But now seems that way :man_shrugging:t2::man_shrugging:t2:

Hi @Dsalkeld,

It was introduced very recently which is why you wouldn’t have had a problem before. Unfortunately until the transaction is fully settled the transaction ID may change, so if we were to allow for the transactions to be pulled in before and the ID changes you would end up with duplicates in your account.

OK
If Quick File have introduced this feature then I want it removed. It’s not necessary and creates an inability to instantly tag transactions. I am not happy with this feature. Please can you remove it and put back to instant bank feed refresh. Your reason is not used by the bank so why should you use it and inconvenience your users. Please revert to the original instant feed refresh
Thanks

Please re read the answer you have been given. Santander have implemented these changes. If you don’t agree with them, you need to speak to your bank.

In any event, I’m pretty sure what you wouldn’t want is duplicated bank entries everytime the ID changes.

Hi @Dsalkeld

Sorry to hear this is causing you problems with your accounting.

There’s a period where a bank may update a transaction for one of many reasons (this isn’t disclosed to us), despite being “settled”. Because of this, Santander includes a flag as part of the data that informs us that we shouldn’t be including that transaction at that moment in time, and it’s typically after 24-48 hours that this flag is removed.

As @Paul_Courtier mentions, this is the bank that has introduced this flag, and if we ignore it, it causes more problems in terms of duplicate transactions.

I’m sorry this isn’t quite the answer you were hoping for. But it may be worth raising this with the bank directly.

An example being that when I pay in cheques they appear as cleared within a few hours. In reality they are not, and could be refered to drawer days later. If they didn’t have these checks in place someone could potentially mark an invoice as paid only having to then adjust it all again should the cheque bounce.

Thanks for pointing this out to me.
It’s a Santander who have introduced this feature.
I apologise, I thought it was Quick File.
Nothing I can do with it I suppose!
I still think it’s a not needed feature. I see why but I cannot remember the last time I had a transaction reversed in 34 years of being in business. Maybe I’m a lucky one.
Thanks for your explanation

It’s not just being reversed. As mentioned above, the bank can and do change the reference so the transaction would be duplicated in the feed.

Hello @QFMathew and @QFBeth

I’m having the same problem as @Dsalkeld

The feed is not updating when I go to refresh the bank feed.
It was working fine yesterday but payments I have received today are not being pulled across into Quickfile as before when I have gone to refresh the feed partway through the day.

All the payments I have received are bacs not cheques

If I’m understanding your comments correctly this is something new Santander has put in place?

Hi @Demelza

As mentioned above, it could be that Santander are flagging these as incomplete at the moment, so it could be tomorrow that they finalise.

Unfortunately this isn’t something reflected on your statements or online banking, but more of something on their system I believe.

It is something new Santander has introduced, but it’s inline with Open Banking, which is why it’s likely other banks will follow in due course.

@QFMathew thank you, just wanted to double check.
