Hi there,
I am getting the following error. (when setting up 3rd Party SMTP Settings)
The operation has timed out.
SMTP server did not reply in a timely fashion. Please ensure the port
number is correct and any firewall on the SMTP server is allowing
outside access.
I’ve tried port 25 and 587.
I am using my own host and have been for a while using the same email and settngs.
Yesterday I had to delete my mailbox, but set it up again, all the same details but getting this error now.
Any ideas. Bit stumped.
I’ve raised a ticket with my host and they have helped but they aren’t having much joy with diagnosing and can only help so far.
Thanks Glenn,
It’s one of those things where I’m 100% the details are correct
I’ve gone as far to use the ip address and unalised name of the mail server.
The host has been helpful with help (different ports etc)
I will give it another goes and let you know.
Is it possible I can send you the mail details privately so someone can sanity check it on my account.
Thanks
Drew
what’s the type of the OS of your mail server?
what’s the type of email software you are using for mail hosting?
did you check firewall and ports?
did you check hostname and reverse dns for the hotname and the ip address?
did you try to use other email server just for testing (you can use gmail account with smtp) to check this issue?
I can see an account under your company name but no SMTP credentials there, have you removed them? If you can add again I will take a look and run some tests.
Hi Cleartelecomus,
I’ve tried most of what you suggest except an off host account such as gmail.
I’ll see what Glen comes back with first.
thanks,
Drew
Worked fine when I tested, just appeared in my Gmail now:
EDIT:
One thing to note though is the SPF check fails, but that will be the case outside of QF too, so it’s worth getting that addressed with your mail provider.
Received-SPF: none (google.com: *******@neptunemedia.co.uk does not designate permitted sender hosts) client-ip=176.32.226.71;
did you check the hostname and the ip address of the sender host to be matched with the dns configuration (mx records entries) and also the reverse dns lookup for the same sender ip?
