Hi
I have recently changed host providers and all is well bar sending emails via SMTP.
The new providers have checked their logs (I have masked the email address which is correct):
2016-03-13 12:47:35 SMTP connection from [5.2.17.182]:63570 I=[77.72.1.66]:587 (TCP/IP connection count = 9)
2016-03-13 12:47:37 dovecot_login authenticator failed for (WEB1) [5.2.17.182]:63570 I=[77.72.1.66]:587: 535 Incorrect authentication data (set_id=XXXXXXXX@XXXXX.co.uk)
2016-03-13 12:47:37 H=(WEB1) [5.2.17.182]:63570 I=[77.72.1.66]:587 X=TLSv1:ECDHE-RSA-AES256-SHA:256 CV=no rejected MAIL XXXXXXXX@XXXXX.co.uk: Access denied - Invalid HELO name (See RFC2821 4.1.1.1)
2016-03-13 12:47:37 SMTP connection from (WEB1) [5.2.17.182]:63570 I=[77.72.1.66]:587 closed by DROP in ACL
I have tried ports 587 and 465 with the same result. It would appear that some providers require strict RFC compliant HELO and others not. Any help in resolving this would be appreciated.
Are your hosting providers able to provide more specific details as to the nature of the problem? I believe this error can be triggered by a few different things.
The following would indicate that the credentials supplied are incorrect.
Hi Glenn. Thanks for quick response.
Hosting and email provider is krystal.co.uk
Same credentials work ok from IOS and Mac email clients. A real mystery.
Regards
Ken
Iām not 100% clear what the problem is, any more detailed info you can glean from your provider would enable us to perform more diagnostics.
Alternatively you could instead setup an SPF record. This means we send the email for you, although on your DNS settings you add an SPF record that basically states that spf.quickfile.co.uk is permitted to send mail from this domain. We have some more information on SPF here.
Magically seems to be resolved.
I thought I would test with wrong password to to see if the error code was different, but got the same response. Then tried again with the correct password and it worked! Mysteries of the universe.
