SMTP settings The operation has timed out

I have tried different ports, email address and settings but I still cannot get this to work. Please can someone explain what I am doing wrong.

After looking on our hosting site I discovered that I need to create a SPF file??? Our hosting site said to use the following http://www.mtgsy.net/dns/spfwizard.php website to do this, but I have no idea on what I should put.

If I am on the right track please can someone assist???

Hi @upgradeproperty

Are the username and password correct?

An SPF record wouldn’t be required to use your own SMTP as the emails would be sent from their side.

If you could re-enter your details, and try again and let us know if that helps?

Yes username and password is correct

I’ve just done a quick search, and I believe that you should be using ports 25 or 587

(Reference: https://www.123-reg.co.uk/support/answers/123-Mail/errors-when-sending-and-receiving-email-5091/)

No does not work on either ports…

Done it had to turn off

I used port 587

Many thanks Simon

Glad you got it working!

I sent a quote out today and had an email back…

We have been unable to send a number of items through your own custom SMTP email server. The last 3 consecutive attempts failed. The error recorded is as follows:
Email: accounts@upgradepropertymaintenance.co.uk Error: Mailbox unavailable. The server response was: This domain is not hosted here

Please return to the SMTP settings page on your QuickFile account (Account Settings Area). If you have recently changed your email password or any other credentials please update and reactivate your SMTP services accordingly.

I reactivated my SMTP settings and it saved it ok but when I tried to resend the quote I had another email with the same error…

Also on the SMTP settings page we are getting this error…

I can activate it but everytime I send an email I am getting that error…

It looks like 123-Reg require you to setup an SPF (Sender Policy Framework) record in order for our incoming requests to be accepted.

I can send some details for a basic SPF record, but you’d need to update your DNS settings for this to work.

Please do, I know how to get into my DNS settings but are unsure of what they need changing to
