Morning all and thanks in advance for any advice
I set up a Quickfile account a few years ago and I use it for a) sending out invoices to clients and b) keeping track of income/outgoings BUT I don’t use it for my tax return. My earnings are very low and I use my bank account statements instead for my tax return.
A few anomolies have set in, the most important one being that ages ago I hooked up a bank account to the Quickfile account, and then disconnected it (but the amount that was in the account when I disconnected it still shows up in my quickfile reports).
I’ve got all my branding and email connections set up nicely and don’t want to lose them. My question is: is there a way I can ‘start again’ and prepare to use my quickfile accounts seriously so that I’m ready for MTD eventually (I won’t be in the first two years of people having to convert as my earnings are so low) without losing all the data on customers and so on already in there?
Or a way I can tidy up the info from the previously-connected bank account and a few other anomalies so that from April next year I can start keeping accounts properly in Quickfile for the HMRC as well as just for my own records?
We have a clear all data option which will allow you to start again but you would not retain customer data on QuickFile (you could take a backup and store this externally.)

Fixing the data from a set date would retain the history on your customer accounts if you are trying to fix a bank balance, you would reconcile it against you bank statements to see
Thank you for that. So there’s no way of (eg) creating a fake invoice to set against that bank account total?) to effectively remove it from the record before I start actually officially using the quickfile accounts properly for MTD? My accounting knowledge is honestly pretty basic so sorry if I’m using the wrong terms…
Hello @EMK123
If you add a fake bank transaction to correct the bank balance you would need to tag it to a fake invoice. meaning the data held would be inaccurate.
Ideally I would reccomend
Either
- Clearing all the data on the account (transactions) and starting as of April 2027 fresh
You would retail invoice design, client/supplier accounts(no history/transactions)
Or
- Creating a new account and starting that as of April 2027 with opening balances
The logo and bank text you have added can be added back in easily
You would have historical data on your old account
The alternative is to correct the existing data by correcting the bank transactions
Thanks for the extra explanations. I will likely to option 1 above.
Hello @EMK123
You can delete your account, or juut the transactions from the account settings area once logged in. Please look for the “Clear all data in your account” option.
We’ve got some more detailed instructions here:

Brilliant. Bookmarked this thread and will come back to it in late March and take action. Thanks again.
