I am attempting to create a new supplier and enter their banking account details etc.
The supplier’s account name is quite long and when trying to enter into the name field, it is triming off the last few characters as per screen shot below:
The displayed field length implies that there is sufficient room available for longer names, but obviously there is a fixed limit to the number of characters that the field has been setup to store.
Can anyone advise if this limit is merely an arbitary number for the web interface, or is there actualy an industry recognised limit on bank account name length?
If the former, is it possible to request a small increase to the character limit on the field to allow for slightly longer account names please?
If I try to make a payment to somebody on Barclays, the max length of the field is 18 characters. I think ours is set to 25.
If Barclays are restricting to 18 I would imagine there’s some sort of bank wide limit there. It seems odd but perhaps the account name is less important given that the sort-code and account number combination would always be sufficient to identify an account.
You could if you like just enter the longer name they’ve supplied in the notes section for the supplier. I don’t think it will make a great deal of difference for the supplier as it won’t show up their side and it won’t affect the payments in anyway.
