Just tried to submit my VAT return through QF. It has always gone through before without a hitch. But this time I have an email back from HMRC saying:
"Unsuccessful submission of VAT Submission online for Reference 805491041
Thank you for sending the VAT submission online.
The submission for reference [my VAT number] was received on 01/07/19. Unfortunately, it could not be accepted as it failed HMRC data checks.
To correct this please use the help provided within the software you used to complete your form and send it again. "
I’ve now also had an email from QF saying that it’s been rejected with the reason that my VAT number hasn’t been recognised. But it is correct!
The only thing that’s changed, I think, is that I registered (successfully) to submit VAT returns online. Any ideas why this may be happening would be appreciated.
Hi @papercontracts,
This may be down to you using the old method of submitting your return rather than using the MTD route?
The other possibilities could be:
- The VAT period is incorrect
- The ‘Mark as Final’ box has been ticked incorrectly
hope this helps
Hi Beth,
Thanks for getting back to me. OK, I hadn’t realised that I need to link QF to HMRC. All done now so hoping it will go through.
Thanks,
David
Making Tax Digital - it is the new way to submit VAT returns that HMRC have brought in. It may be worth speaking to someone at HMRC to check whether you are still allowed to use the old method.
If you have to use MTD then you first will need to make sure you are registered. Once registered with HMRC you can then update your QuickFile VAT settings to be able to submit this way
