when I untagged a payment from current account in my credit card account, it deleted the corresponding payment entry in my bank current account.
Background - I import bank transactions and credit card transactions into the respective qf accounts by csv files. This means the monthly payment to the credit card company appears as an item in both the bank ac (money out) and the credit card ac (money in).
To tag the items, I select the bank ac entry and tag it as a bank transfer to the credit card ac. This creates a duplicate entry in the credit card ac but this is not a problem, the other (csv imported) entry can be deleted (or it could be eliminated from the csv file in the 1st place).
Owing to an error, I untagged the entry in the credit card file and it deleted the entry in the current bank ac. In fact it deleted the other 5 payments to the credit card company (total 6) from the current bank ac which I had not attempted to tag and to which I had not set up any tagging rule (this was a new bank current bank ac and new credit card company).
It shouldn’t create a duplicate entry. When you tag the current account as a transfer, it should display a drop down list of matching entries with the same value.
If its creating a duplicate then it must mean that your transaction in the credit card account has a different date to that of the current account. You may need to check that.
As for deleting entries, I’m pretty certain this shouldn’t be one of the areas where this happens. Are you certain you are clicking the tag button to remove it and not pressing the X?
I think when I use bulk tag in Bank account and select bank transfer to credit card, your system does not offer to match entries with the same value as all my transactions have same value and same date. Therefore new duplicate entries are created. When I select an individual entry to tag, it works as you say, that is, it finds the matching entry in the credit card account.
However, when I detag any entry, from the credit card account, it deletes the entry in the Bank account and that is a bug.
I was not able to test this fully as I was under pressure to file my accounts (31st on Saturday!) but I have a back up of my accounts prior to year end work and would be happy to try and replicate the issue if needed
That makes sense. Thanks for the clarification. If i’d deleted the tag from the Bank would it have deleted the entry in the credit card account while keeping the Bank account entry?
