I have set up an affinity account and added a client
I am trying todo their vat return but I am getting the following error message:
You are not yet authorised to view this report for the VRN 221731151 . Please ensure your VAT number is correct and you have connected the corresponding HMRC Tax Account. If you have recently enrolled on the MTD scheme please allow 24 hours for HMRC systems to update.
my agent account is set up in QuickFile and linked
I am authorised on my HMRC agent account to act on his behalf and I can see this when I log into my HMRC account
he is set up for MTD as he has been operating for 5yrs, he is not a new company just a new client. He used MTD on xero and it worked fine but I can’t get it to work here
And you have definitely linked quickfile with the mtd account? As in gone through the process of linking to your ASA, inputting an authorisation code and being redirected back to quickfile?
And when you set up the link in quickfile under hmrc, you selected organisation and not individual?
Do you have more than one attempt listed in that section? If so you need to delete the old ones.
It does suggest that there’s either something not quite right with the link (and you may need to disconnect and re-connect it), or there’s an issue with the VAT details (e.g. the VAT number is incorrect).
It’s worth checking these, and if everything is still OK, you may need to give HMRC a call unfortunately, as it’s them who are refusing the connection.
Just a quick question
I have submitted the vat return and it looks like the confirmation email went to the team member listed on the company team management tab.
As an agent I did not get a copy of the email, I have tried adding myself on team management as a team member and it won’t let me as says I already have an account.
Is there a setting somewhere that I need to change to allow myself as the agent to also get confirmation emails too?
With MTD the confirmation email is just a “nice to have” extra that QuickFile provides rather than a “must have” - the process is synchronous, if the submission is accepted then you know it worked, if it’s going to fail then it fails immediately and doesn’t let you submit. It’s not like the old online submission system where it would accept the submission regardless and then notify you later whether or not it worked.
