VAT Duplicat Submission

When I try to submit my VAT return for the period 01.07-30.09.22 I get an error message saying ERROR: Duplicate _Submission - The VAT return was already submitted for the given period. However it has not been. If is still showing as outstanding in my VAT account and it is allowing me to roll it back and then create it and when I have I get the message. There is no receipt reference to show that it has been submitted either. I don’t know where I go from here.

Many thanks
Ian

Hello Ian

This error is returned by HMRC and the only wat to rectify it is to contact them directly.

Have you had a failed submission?, chances are it has gone through but HMRC have not returned the receipt ID to us.

If this is the case you would have to mark the period as saved.

To do this go to generate the return and untick “Send electronically to HMRC”, then click save vat return (as shown below).

Hi Steve
Thank you for your reply. No it wasn’t a failed submission - first of all I got an internal error warning then when I tried again I keep getting that it has already been submitted. How long does it take for the VAT site to be updated as it is still showing as outstanding there too?

Many thanks
Ian

Sorry I should have said that it is showing as - SAVED This VAT Return has not been submitted to HMRC.

I did get an email from Quickfile to say that an error message had been received and to try and submit again. I have rolled back several times and tried again but keep getting the same response.

Chances are one of your submissions have went through. but HMRC have not returned the receipt ID to us.

If you haven’t already mark the period as saved as per the instructions above.
