Hi - i have been running this business for a year as VAT registered - BUT - we had a few invoices pre-VAT registration. HMRC says yes you can claim them, but how does Quick File let me add an old VAT payment into a new VAT return 9 months later?
When you submit a return all the transactions it contains are flagged as vat reconciled
By design when you create a new vat return it will scan for any invoices which have not been included on a return dated prior to up to the end date of the period selected (as they have not been flagged as reconciled yet)
The only limitation of this is the vat return start date in Reports > Vat Returns > Settings
This is a cut off point which nothing prior is taken into account.
On your next return you can make a manual adjustment to the relevant boxes for the value of the few invoices you mentioned.
Thanks Steve - do you mean change the VAT Filing Start DAte back by a Quarter - or do you mean move the VAT Invoice Day into the Current Quarter for the VAT Filing - then move them back again after the VAT report is run?
So A. Extend back VAT start date or B. Adjust VAT Invoice Date
Don’t make any changes to vat start date as it will not let you move it back once you have done a return.
Enter the invoices as normal (with the correct dates), this is your backing data incise you are ever expected.
On your next return make manual adjustments to the relevant boxes for the value of the few invoices you mentioned as the invoices would not be picked up because they are prior to the vat start date.
