VAT Return auth failure

Submitting my VAT Return and receiving an error to say that I am not authorised. I have followed the help information and confirmed that the correct HMRC account is set up, that QuickFile is an authorised software linked to the account etc but still can’t get past the failure message so unable to raise my latest VAT return. Can someone help?

Hello @Maria_Jones

I can see on your account in Reports > HMRC you are getting the “Client not Authorised”

This error usually occurs due to one of the following reasons:

  • The wrong account has been linked (e.g. a personal tax account rather than the organisation’s tax account)
  • The VAT registration number has not been correctly entered.
  • The organisation is not fully enrolled for Making Tax Digital (MTD)

You can find more information in our HMRC troubleshooting guide here

I would first reccomend trying to reconnect via the Reports > HMRC as HMRC are returning this error when we try and log into your account using the details you have provided.

If the error continues you may have to contact HMRC directly as we have no control over the authorisation process.
