VAT Return Error Message

Got the message below on 7th December and still have the same message, please advise what to do.

VAT - Submission Errors
On Saturday, 7th December, we observed an increased error rate from the HMRC VAT gateway. This issue may have caused error responses when submitting VAT returns.

If you were affected, we recommend rolling back your submission and attempting to resubmit your VAT return. If the subsequent attempt results in a DUPLICATE_SUBMISSION response, no further action is required at this time.

We have reported this issue to HMRC and are awaiting further guidance.

If you have any concerns or require assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Thank you for your understanding.

Hello @MaLo

I looked at the account linked to your email.

There is nothing to do in relation the the error shown above.

I did notice on your account the “Client not Authorised” error message with your connection to HMRC in the Reports > HMRC screen

This error usually occurs due to one of the following reasons:

  • The wrong account has been linked (e.g. a personal tax account rather than the organisation’s tax account)
  • The VAT registration number has not been correctly entered.
  • The organisation is not fully enrolled for Making Tax Digital (MTD)

You can find more information in our HMRC troubleshooting guide here

This problem seems to be continuing on the 27 December and is not resolved.

Hello @LaB

The DUPLICATE_SUBMISSION message you are receiving is returned from HMRC which implies they have a submission for that period.

Under MTD rules you can not make a second submission for a specific period.

Other customers have told us they they have contacted HMRC and they have been received and the tax account will be updated in a few days.

I would reccomend contacting HMRC directly to get confirmation.
