VAT return - I filed my last one directly with HMRC. How can I file the next one with QuickFile?

I’m trying to file my current quarter’s VAT return (Aug-Oct) but because the previous return (May-July) was submitted direct on HMRC website it will not allow me to submit this current one. I have tried to override the dates but because the previous VAT return (Feb-Apr) was done through Quick File it is telling us there is a quarter missing.

How do I override the missing quarter to submit this due quarter?

Hi @shrew

You would submit the missing VAT return through QuickFile, but untick the “File electronically with HMRC” box. This will save the VAT return on your account and move the outstanding balance (if there is one) ready to be balanced with a tagged bank entry when it’s paid.

The figures in the return would need to match the one you submitted to HMRC outside of QuickFile, so you may need to make some adjustments if the figures are different.

I hope that helps, but let me know if we can help further.

Thank you very much. I will try that.
